In general, applications are installed or they are not.

In the case of HP Smart (Windows), the application has more than one part to it.

A new version of the application was recently released in the Microsoft Store

If the HP Smart application was actually uninstalled as opposed to "stopped working", then after you restart your computer, printer, and router, the app should not be listed in Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.

If the application is still installed and not working, then you might be able to recover the app's functionality using the app Reset feature.

Reminder

It is important that every device is using the latest version of the HP Smart app for that device type.

Check / Update >> Every device (computer(s) and mobile) where HP Smart is installed should be running the latest version of the HP Smart application available for that device platform (Operating System / Version).

AND

The printer and device (computer, tablet, phone) where HP Smart is running should be on the same network.

Next,

Resetthe HP Smart application - This action removes the app data.

How to Reset the App

Windows 10 -

Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

OR

Windows 11 -

Settings > Apps > Installed Apps

Next,

Search / FindHP Smartin the apps list

OpenAdvancedoptions >Resetthe app

Restartthe computer and log in

OpenHP Smart>Sign in>Add Printer(s)

Consider

If you cannot install applications from the Store, the underlying cause of the issue might be tied to the store itself.

What?

The Microsoft Store is an "app", too.

Like other applications, the Store will be updated.

You can open the Store to your Library and "Get Updates".

Uninstall the HP Smart app from Windows > Restart the computer and log in

AND

While connected to the same (home / office) network as your computer,

Uninstall the HP Smart app from other device(s) on your network (computers, tablets, phones)

After the app is removed from its device > Restart the device (for example, iPad, iPhone)

Next,

Repeat for each mobile device where you want to install the HP Smart application:

Install the HP Smart app on the mobile device

Start HP Smart app > Sign into the app > Add printer(s)

Next,

Restart the computer and log in

Install a fresh copy of the HP Smart application for Windows

  • If using VPN >>Disconnect from Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection before downloading.
  • Turn on Wi-Fi on your computer or mobile device and connect to your network. If the computer is connected to the network with an Ethernet cable, temporarily disconnect the cable and use the Wi-Fi connection during the setup.

  • HP Smart requires that you sign into the application using your HP Account credentials.
  • When working through a Browser to access HP Smart, be sure you have Cookies enabled. If cookies are enabled and you are having trouble, clear Cache and Cookies. And / Or … Try a different Browser – assign that Browser as the Default. (Note: Chrome not working? Use / Assign a different default Browser.)
  • Where possible, HP Smart benefits (likes) having the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software installed. For example, full driver provides access to Shortcuts and Printing Preferences.
  • “Share” to email – Before using Share, add your sender email address to the standard Windows Mail application (not New Outlook).
  • Document includes the HP Smart application download links for Windows and Mobile devices, plus an FAQ section to assist with questions / issues.
